Why do yoga?
Yoga is a science. Yoga postures keep the body in the best possible health and give an understanding of how to release tension at a deep level from tissues, organs and joints.
Yoga helps us to restore wholeness in body, mind and spirit.
Stressful living and poor lifelong habits can create various stresses, contractions that impair or block proper flow of energy through channels. Stress inhibits circulation of energy and nutrients while allowing toxins and waste materials to accumulate. These blockages cause discomfort, reduce functioning, resulting in pain and disease. As mind and body are interconnected, physical blockages intertwine with mental and emotional blockages and hold various addictions, compulsions and attachments.

The purpose of asanas is to create a free flow of energy within our body (prana), release tension, improve flexibility and maximise flow of energy.
Yoga postures prepare us for pranayama (breathing techniques and practice) and meditation. Prana is life force; the subtle energy of air. While postures are important, prana is perhaps more important. Prana directs our postures. As we use the power of prana, it directs our yoga practice from within and we become aware of prana’s healing power.
Pranic body works mainly through our respiratory and circulatory systems of the physical body. Oxygen is carried through blood to energise our tissues. Yogic breathing gives benefits to both bodily health and mental well being and techniques of pranayama (breathing) help us to meditate effectively.
General Yoga Class
Yoga is taught in a traditional way of a gentle warm up, asanas (postures) and pranayama(breathing practice) and leads into relaxation or meditation. Everyone is welcome and we cater for all levels. If you have specific health issues we recommend that you contact the teacher prior to arrival to ensure your yoga tuition is appropriate for you.
One to one yoga sessions$50 per hour each- a private session designed just for your needs
Tuesdays & Thursdays 10-11.30am Ideal for beginners and those with health issues. All welcome St Peters by the Sea Church Hall, Marine Ave, Waihi Beach $10 per class
Restorative Yoga is for you to enjoy ‘being’ and to use the breath to release any tension held within deep connective tissues within your body. You relax, totally supported with bolsters, blankets and cushions. Each posture lasts for about 5 minutes – leading you into a deep meditative state which is so restorative in our fast paced world. Bookings essential. Classes limited to 4.

Yoga on the Beach
… a simple and effective way to connect with nature – combining the ocean’s energising ions withyoga’s ‘good feeling’ endorphins. As we open the energy channels in our body with yoga poses we connect with nature in a most profound way.

Come along each New Year’s Day at 7am for yoga outside the surf club at the north end. Start the year off in a healthy way with like minded people.
One to One Yoga Session
Personalised yoga sessions are available. These are ideal for specific health issues. Maybe you would like to try yoga for the first time or you cannot get to regular yoga classes… these sessions are perfect for you. $50 per person; $40 per person for 2 people
Restorative Yoga is designed to support the body with props (bolsters, cushions, blankets), in a warm, comfortable, carpeted space – so that the body is both stimulated and relaxed. Beneficial to health and can reduce effects of stress related disease. No need to have done yoga before. Ideal for times when you feel weak, fatigued, stressed from your daily activities. Enjoy a supportive environment for total relaxation. Time for you to find time in your busy schedule to relax your breath, body and mind. Classes limited to 4. $40 for 4 sessions. Tuesdays 5.30 – 6.45pm Bookings essential.
A half hour fun session for children aged between 4 and 11. The 30 minutes is about children exploring and delighting in different postures; using their imagination as they stretch and move. While they are having fun they are learning to breathe correctly, learn good posture and learn how to focus, relax and be in the present moment. Available for groups of children – minimum 5
Gentle stretches for those who have never done yoga or who have health issues and need to maintain their good health. Lots of support and explanations of the basics to guide you into yoga. Fantastic for relaxation, building flexibility and keeping energy flowing through your body for good health. A great way to meet new people – usually a group go to a local cafe for a drink afterwards.
